Saturday August 5th  2017 - 11am - 2pm

Location:  Edward Street, Brisbane CBD, QLD

Section One: Screenplay - Write a Professional Screenplay.

Film Instructor Colm O'Murchu
  • Introductions of the 14 People on the Course and the Teacher
  • Course Overview and the Main Objectives - The Film Production and the excitement of producing and making the film
  • How to format a script - This is an essential so as to present professional scripts
  • Which Software to use and how to get it for Free saving you $200
  • The Film Shots and what they are called - This is essential for the Film Director to understand

Saturday August 5th  2017  3pm - 6pm

Creating the Screenplay

Story Invention Workshop. In this session we create the Story for the Film Production. Colm O'Murchu shows you exactly how to create a story that grabs the audience.

  • Story Ideas Brainstorm and Generation
  • Plot the story
  • We demonstrate how to write a short film using the Impro Technique
  • 3 Act Structure
  • Three Dimensional Character Creation
  • High Stakes Objective
  • Adding Conflict to your story

RESULT: By 9.30pm we will have developed an eight minute short film story
Voluntary Homework: Write the first draft script of the story. Over the years we have found the results of the above techniques have produced a strong short film story for emerging or beginner film makers.

After Course Drinks Social at a local Hotel (Allow $5 for a drink). This is voluntary and totally for the networking amongst the group.

Saturday August 12th  2017  11am - 2pm-  Shooting a Scene

   6 Hours completed First Practical Film Making Session:

On this session everyone shall be familiarised with all of the film equipment. You will get to use it and feel how it works and learn about what is needed for a Professional Shoot.

  • Camera Equipment: Play with the 4K Black Magic Camera with Professional Rig including Matt Box and A-B Hard Stop Follow Focus with 4 Prime Lenses(14mm, 24mm, 35mm, 85mm)
  • Lights Equipment: Three Red Heads, Three Dedo Lights, Gels, Spun Reflectors and Scrims
  • Top Professional Sound Equipment including Sennheizer 416 Microphone, Foam and Wind Socks, Boom Poles and Pistol Grips, Senheizer Lapel Mics
  • Tracks and Crane and Steadicam Equipment, Sliders

Result: By the end of the session, you will know the names of all of the professional equipment, how it looks and what it is for

Camera & Using it.

By the end of tonight you will learn how to operate a Professional Camera and shoot a scene

  • How to balance a Fluid Head Tripod
  • How to focus effectively using a Focus Chart
  • How to get the best F Stop
  • How to use the Zebra
  • How to frame a shot beautifully
  • How to pan and tilt
  • When to use Prime Lenses and when to use Zoom Lens
The Session will end with Shooting an Interview with 3 different Camera Shots

Setting up the Casting: We show you how we get the best Actors in town to the Castin

The Sound Session: Tonight we train you in how to use Professional Sound Equipment

  • The Shotgun Microphone
  • The Wind Sock
  • The Foam Sock
  • The Pistol Grip

  • Wireless Transmitters and Receivers
  • Lapel Microphones
  • XLR Inputs on the Camera and why they are so important
  • Setting the right sound levels
  • How to record top class Professional Sound
  • The Session ends with shooting a professional one minute scene from multiple camera angles and correctly recording Sound

Saturday 26th August 3pm - 6pm  Lighting


 

The Lighting Session: You learn to use all of the Lighting and Gaffer Equipment

  • The Film Lights Dedos and Redheads x 6  
  • Gels
  • Blacks
  • Cutters
  • Spun
  • Scrim
  • Reflectors
  • How to three point light a film set

Weather permitting, We shoot and Light an external Car Scene with two actors


Saturday  16th September  11am - 2pm  Casting

Casting Night - Real Live Auditions with Real Actors

Tonight we have a real live Casting with real actors. All of the Course participants get to

  • Work on the Casting of Actors
  • Set up the Lights and Camera and operate them
  • Use the Lapel Microphone on the actors auditioning
  • Every 10 minutes an actor is scheduled for the casting
  • Course participants get to direct the actors in the casting

You will learn and know how to cast a film effectively by doing it for real. This is a favourite session as one learns how to pick the best actors from the audition


Section Three:   Preparing to Shoot - Preproduction

Saturday 16th September  3pm - 6pm

  11am - 2pm

 

  • Finalising Locations for the Film Shoot
  • All Final Production issues are addressed
  • How to Prepare a Schedule and a Call Sheet
  • Working with Actors and how to Direct Actors

Tonight you will learn all about final preproduction for a film shoot

 

Thursday Night 21st September 6.30pm - 9.30pm

Final Shoot Preparations; How to prepare for shooting.

  • How to do a shot list
  • What a storyboard is
  • Actors Wardrobe Finalised
  • Rehearsals with the Actors

Tonight you will complete all the preparations and the preproduction for the movie that you will shoot now


SECTION FOUR:   THE SHOOT AND POSTPRODUCTION

Saturday 7th October  11 am - 6pm  Film Editing Day

In the studio, Editing begins on the film. You will learn how a film is edited and how to make the film     professional

  • View Saturdays Material
  • We edit the first days work
  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • How to view rushes
  • How to edit the material into a finished scene.
  • Music Selection.

Today you will learn how to prepare and edit your movie and get some scenes actually edited

Saturday 21st October  11.00 am - 5.00pm Sound Postproduction Day

Sound Post Session Channel 9 Sound Post Expert John Hresc cleans and mixes the Sound Session in the Sound Post Studio

  • How to clean up dialogue
  • Using ADR to replace location dialogue
  • Where to place Sound Effects

This is a wonderful final technical session where the course participant learns the importance of Sound and sees the film in its completed phase for the first time with music and seamless sound track.


Section Five  Making Film, Making Pay, and the Future
